ZPACIFIKOVANÁ (hra o prázdnotě) / PACIFIED (A Play about Emptiness)
Kateřina Rudčenková
Cast: 1 man, 1 woman
“…in no way and under no circumstances would I sacrifice myself. Not on the cross, not in bed, nor in the kitchen, not for my ancestors, nor for my offspring, and not for my country…”
She and he are a young pair of creative artists whose relationship functions here as a ground for controversy about the meaning of art and responsibility for the world’s problems.
Both partners leave forLondontogether. Here, she has as an assignment to create a work with a political message. He helps her, but he also morally judges her.
This playful and metaphorical play, written in a poetic tongue is an internal attempt to overcome creative narcissism, an attempt to come out of themselves, do something useful for the “world”, and to deal with its issues and objective reality.
Where is their strength? In imagination, thanks to which everything they merely imagine appears on the stage? Or in the way that they live for one another in the intimate space of a relationship?
“You could have created your own divinity.” “I did that, too. Narcissism. And under it’s surface, emptiness…”
The play is available also in English translation.
