Daniela Fischerová

Cast: 6 men, 4 women

Fischerová reconstructs a well-known storz as a cruel picture of a power struggle whose goal is the hand of the legendary Turandot. The princess destroys her suitors in her desire to reverse the wheel of history, to make use of the power inherited after the death of her father, and to establish more human conditions in the country. However, she becomes the necessary victim of her suppressed sensitivity, when her weakness is exploited by her even more cold-blooded adversary, the power-hungry and theatrically gifeted Prince Kalaf. The happz end of Gozzi’s fairy tale here, in the style of Durrenmatt, means a “turn for the worse”.

The play is available also in English and German translation.
