A MOSQUITO WEDDING
Vít Peřina
Genre: fairy tale comedy
Cast: variable
Suitable for children from the age of 6.
Theatre performances for children are usually packed with animal characters. You regularly happen to meet mice, sheep, bears, foxes, wolfs, dogs, and cats. Camels or hippos are also quite common nowadays. However, this play is devoted to animals that might not be so visible, but we very often meet them in real life: mosquitos.
And on top of that, there are other insect representatives that people call “troublesome” on the scene: fleas, gadflies, ticks. Because even these creatures have right to their own fairy tale.
Mosquito Zdenda is ready to enter the world of adult mosquitoes. However, according to the tradition he needs to accomplish one important task before he attacks a mushroom picker’s uncovered calf for the first time. He needs to find himself a bride. He is helped by two of his friends, Štěpa, the Tick and Olda, the Gadfly. The Firefly that Zdenda is secretely in love with has just been kidnapped by the evil Spider so they must all cooperate. This unusual trio of characters reminds us with their appearance and skills of the powerful fairy-tale trio High, Wide, and Cleareyed so in the end they obviously successfully deal with all the obstacles and the big insect adventure is concluded with a spectacular wedding.
The play is available in the Czech original and English translation.
