At the times of ancient gods, heroic chieftains and psychopathic dictators, a heroine was born in a restless country. Her name was Zdena. A mighty princess strengthened by the glow of the Olympics. Track shoes, passion, danger. Her courage is going to change the world. What does it matter that there starts to grow a dark moustache under her nose – the main thing is that she is breaking the records on the running track. She will soon become a favourite of Czechoslovakia and the whole world of track and field. But those that she leaves behind are starting to look for the reasons for her success.
The play by Tomáš Dianiška inspired by a scandalous life story of a Czechoslovak athlete whose sports achievements have been deleted from our modern history was written for the Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava.
The play was awarded the prize for The best first staged Czech play of the year 2019 at the Theatre Critics’ Awards.
The play is available in the Czech original and English translation.
