Klestilová, Iva (Czech republic)
Iva Klestilová graduated form the grammar school (1982) and then worked as a wardrobe assistant at the Janáček’s Theatre in Brno (1983–84) and cooperated with the Children’s Studio of the Na provázku Theatre. The following twenty years of her life (1984–2004) are mostly connected with the HaDivadlo theatre where she worked as an actress. As an author, she earned attention with her play Všichni svatí (All Saints, 1997). Her plays won sevrelas prizes at Alfred Radok Awards: in 1998 she was in the final with her play Všichni svatí (All Saints), in 2000 she won the third prize for Trilogii minach (The Minach Trilogy), in 2001 she shared the second proze for the play Stísněni (Cramped), in 2002 the third prize for the play 3sestry2002.cz (3sisters2002.cz) and in 2006 she was in the final again with her play Jak v Sistrech listí svist. The awarded texts were produced in many theatres, Cramped (2001, produced at the National Theatre under the title Cramped 22) and 3sisters2002.cz (produced at the Rokoko Theatre as 3sisters2005.cz). Her other texts have also been staged – for example Zisk slasti (The Gain of Pleasure, staged reading in Ústí nad Labem; 1999), Barbíny (Barbie Dolls, written together with Valeria Schultzova, produced at the Na zábradlí Theatre; 2005), Benefice (Beneficent Event, produced at the Činoherní studio theatre in Ústí nad Labem; 2005), Standa má problém (Standa Has a Problem, the Divadlo v Dlouhé theatre; 2005), Má vlast (My Homeland, the Rokoko Theatre; 2006, Alfréd Radok Awards: The Czech play of the year). She has also written plays Čtvrté patro (The Fourth Floor, 2001) and Konec (The End). In 2004 she was appointed the dramaturge of the drama section of the National Theatre. In cooperation with the director Michal Dočekal she adapted for stage the novel The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov for the Vígszinház Theatre and America by Franz Kafka for the Hungarian Theatre in Cluj. The Slovak National Theater produced her stage adaptation of the Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. Currently she works as a dramturge at the Pod Palmovkou Theatre. She cooperates with various television channels, for example HBO (miniseries Burning Bush, TV show Therapy I, Therapy II) or TV Nova (The Street). From the 1990s until 2006 she used surname Volánková.
