Dianiška, Tomáš (Czech republic)
Tomáš Dianiška was born in 1984 in Banská Bystrica. He graduated from the acting programme at the Department of Dramatic Theatre of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 2008. After his graduation he got employed as an actor by the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec where he played more than 30 roles.
He is a co-founder and the main playwright of the underground and punk F. X. Kalba Theatre that focuses on the topics related to the “YouTube generation”. Even though he comes from Slovakia, he usually writes in Czech. His first staged play was Googling and Fucking – it was originally presented at a party that was called DrinkART.
His plays are usually presented in his co-direction or directed by his allied directors (Anna Petrželková, Adéla Stodolová, Braňo Holiček, Jan Frič). He cooperates as an author and actor with Prague alternative theatres such as MeetFactory, Letí, A Studio Rubín, Masopust, Chemické divadlo and others.
Since September 2014 he has been employed as an actor at the Pod Palmovkou Theatre where he also shapes the character of the studio scene called Studio Palm Off. Several of his plays (Mickey Mouse je mrtvý, Přísně tajné: hrubá nemravnost, Mlčení bobříků and Pusťte Donnu k maturitě!) have be staged there as well as his stage adaptations of popular non-fiction books Jak sbalit ženu (How To Pick Up a Woman) and 1000 věcí, co mě serou (1000 Things That Piss Me Off).
He cooperates as an author with the Czech Radio. He also works as a party DJ.
In 2017 he won the category Talent of the Year at the Theatre Critics’ Awards. His play Transky, body, vteřiny was awarded the prize for The best first staged Czech play of 2019 at the Theatre Critics’ Awards. His play Bezruký Frantík was shortlisted for the same prize. Dianiška was acknowledged also as a director because his production of Transky, body, vteřiny at the Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava won the most closely watched category of the Drama production of the Year in 2019. His play 294 statečných was awarded the prize for The best first staged Czech play of the year 2020. His play Špinarka was awarded the prize for The best first staged Czech play of the year 2021. His plays Burian a Encyklopedie akčního filmu were shortlisted for the same prize. His play Tělo tajné agentky was awarded the prize for The best first staged Czech play of the year 2023.
